Backinfo AutoIT self contained install script

For the download click here: https://www.msdonkey.com/server/backinfo-desktop-background/

This is a simple installer which I created using AutoIT, which will do the following:

  1. Copy the backinfo files to C:\Programdata\backinfo
  2. Create the registry entries to run at startup for all users in HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
  3. Run BackInfo.exe

Here is the source code, I removed the .exe as it was being detected as a virus by Google.

#cs ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
AutoIt Version: 3.3.10.2
Author: msdonkey.com

Script Function:
Backinfo script, set desktop backgound colour if required before running the script

#ce ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

;Admin rights are required for writing to HKLM for all users
#RequireAdmin

$iResult = MsgBox(1, "BackInfo Install Script", "Install and set backinfo?")

If $iResult = 2 Then
Exit
EndIf
; No Button pressed

;Set variables
$vWinDir = @WindowsDir
$vInstallDir = @AppDataCommonDir & "\BackInfo\"

;Create the directory
DirCreate($vInstallDir)

If @error Then
Msgbox(16,"Error","Error creating directory")
EndIf

;Install the backinfo files, these will be complied and included with the exe
FileInstall("C:\temp\BackInfo\BackInfo.exe", $vInstallDir)
FileInstall("C:\temp\BackInfo\BackInfo.ini", $vInstallDir)
; Create the registry entry which will be under Wow6432node

RegWrite("HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run", "BackInfo", "REG_SZ", "C:\Programdata\Backinfo\BackInfo.exe")

If @error Then
$error = "There is an error writing the reg key: " & @error
MsgBox(16, "Error", $error)
EndIf

;run backinfo now

Run($vInstallDir & "BackInfo.exe" & " " & $vInstallDir & "BackInfo.ini")

MsgBox(0,"Complete", "BackInfo installed")

  1. Let me know if any issues with this, seems to work great so far for me on all the PCs and servers I have tried it on. I also tried using the default wallpaper and converting using autoIT to a bitmap, which worked, but it was too problematic with different screen resolutions. This is also why the text is in the middle of the screen.

      1. Katherine,I called Jesus a progressive instead of a liberal for this very purpose. The values of helping one another, seeing that each gets her fill, those are progressive values. You can be conservative, liberal, Republican, anything and be progressive. In this society we have the power to steer our government. It is our duty to use it (and our own resources) to help those less fortunate than us. We also have an obligation to Christ, to protect his name from being misused by those who only seek power and wealth.

    1. dit :En plus de l’amélioration du temps du boot, ce serait cool de voir une amélioration au niveau du temps de chargement de la session.Affaire à suivre, mais ça s’annonce bien !

  2. I might add that Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 doesnt detect anything wrong with the AutoBackInfo.exe.

  3. I don’t understand why, but all the time, my background is black.
By default, background is black, and if I add “BackgroundBitmap = C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Windows\img0.bmp” My background does’nt change… always black…

    Can you help me ?

  4. Can anyone confirm that this is a malicious file or not? Symantec detected it as a Trojan horse! until otherwise proven DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS FILE!!!!!

  5. I am pulling this file, it is not a virus but google detects it as malware because of the scripting. You can create it yourself from the code.
